PROMISE
Providing mental health promotion training guidelines and training resources for healthcare professionals
The PROMISE Project

The core output from the DG SANCO funded PROMISE (Promotion of Mental Health Minimising Mental Illness: Integrating through Education) Project is a set of training guidelines for social and health care professionals in the area of mental health promotion and also specifically in relation to: 1) drug/alcohol abuse prevention, 2) suicide and depression prevention and 3) promoting healthy living for mental health service users. In addition to these guidelines, PROMISE has produced model training programmes for drug/alcohol abuse prevention and suicide and depression prevention.

Mental health service users and their organisations have made key contributions to PROMISE. They have been involved in developing guidelines for mental health service user involvement in local design and delivery of mental health promotion and illness prevention training, and in developing model training programmes, including one with a special emphasis on positive mental health, healthy living, diet and exercise.

Within this website, you have free access to our guidelines and model training programmes. These are ‘works in progress’ and you can input into their design if you choose. We are actively seeking input from everyone with an interest in mental health promotion and illness prevention: health professionals, mental health service users, trainers, educators, policy makers, managers, etc. Please contact us if you wish to make an input.
